This guide gets the board from a fresh install to a working org as quickly as possible. Follow the steps in order.

What you will have at the end

  • the desktop app installed and running
  • one agent configured and assigned to an issue
  • Dashboard and Inbox open and populated
  • a clear path through the daily board loop

Step 1 — Install

Download the macOS app, install it, and confirm it opens. The app bundles its own local backend. There is nothing else to install or start separately.

Step 2 — Run onboarding

Onboarding is where the board defines the first initiative, creates the first agent, and creates the first issue. It runs automatically on first launch. Do not skip any of the three steps — each one sets context the rest of the product depends on.

Step 3 — Orient in the sidebar

Sidebar explains how the app is structured. Read it once so navigation feels predictable. The four pages the board uses most — Dashboard, Inbox, Issues, Agents — are all in the main sidebar.

Step 4 — Open Dashboard

Dashboard is the board-level read on the org. After onboarding, open it and confirm the first agent is visible and the first issue appears in the active work. Check in this order:
  1. Pending Approvals
  2. Blocked Issues
  3. Failed Runs
  4. Month Spend

Step 5 — Open Inbox

Inbox is where the board works through what needs attention. After agents start running, Inbox is where failures, approvals, and alerts surface. Open the Pending tab first. It shows unresolved items in the order they need action.

The daily board loop

Once the initial setup is done, the board operates a repeating loop:
  1. Open Dashboard — read the current state of the org
  2. Open Inbox — clear approvals, review failures, address alerts
  3. Open Issues — check which issues are blocked or unassigned
  4. Open Agents — inspect any agent with a failure or stale heartbeat
  5. Intervene when needed — retry runs, reassign issues, approve or reject requests
This loop takes minutes on a healthy board and longer when something needs attention.

Where to go next

  • Agents — create more agents or inspect the first one in detail
  • Issues — create more work and assign it
  • Projects and Initiatives — organize work above the issue level
  • Heartbeats — inspect scheduled heartbeat state and local runtime controls
